Picky Produce

Product Concept // October 2024

Many independent young people discover that keeping your produce fresh comes as an unforeseen struggle.

This struggle then leads to them wasting money on their fruits and veggies as well as resorting to an unhealthier diet since those foods are easier to keep for long periods of time.

This project will aim to inform recently independent young people on how to properly store their produce whilst also providing a resource to keep track of what fruits and veggies they already own. Therefore, helping them eat healthier and save money.

  • Young people, aged 20 to 25, moving out for the first time don't realise the difficulties that come with storing fresh produce. This leads to them wasting money on food they won't be able to eat.

  • Create a product and adjoining brand that will endeavour to improve the skills of newly independent young people. Ensure that this product is easy to read, understand and interact with.

  • As a newly moved out young person, I also struggle to keep my fruits and veggies happy and I find it discouraging to throw them out because I didn't store them properly. My solution to this struggle is a set of magnets that clearly display the produce you have and where to store it. Additionally, you will be provided with a set of flip cards that detail more thorough information, as well as a whiteboard list that will help you keep track of what produce you have.

user surveys

Do you know how to correctly store produce?

Have you found your diet has changed since moving out?

  • When I am tired from work I’ll buy take out rather than cooking a meal.

  • Yes - More heat up meals/highly processed foods due to how cheap and easy they are.

  • Yes, due to monetary constraints I am looking for more efficient food groups, less snacking.

Would you find a guide beneficial?

What would you like to see from this guide? Are there any ideas you would like to share?

  • Just basic how to store with simple visuals, so muc hcomplicated information out there makes it hard to figure out what to do. Maybe also a seasonal guide for brisbane? This is surprisingly hard to find.

  • Clear and concise information.
